(New Entrance Exam for Nursing Applicants)

What is the TEAS-V Test?

The Test of Essential Academic Skills, version five (TEAS-V) measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage.

  • Total time available to test:   209 minutes (3 hours and 29 minutes)
  • Number of test questions:  170 (multiple-choice; 20 are pilot questions)
  • Points possible:  150
    • Reading:  58 minutes/48 questions
    • Math:  51 minutes/34 questions
    • Science:  66 minutes/54 questions
    • English and Language:  34 minutes/34 questions

Who should register for the TEAS-V Test?

All students who apply to the Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Paramedic to RN Mobility, and LPN to RN Mobility programs at Gadsden State will be required to take the TEAS-V as part of the application process.   The score received on the test will be considered as part of the selective admissions process.  If you do not participate in the TEAS-V, your application will not be evaluated.   Proof of the TEAS-V score must be attached to nursing applications.    

When should I take the TEAS-V exam?

It is recommended that you take the exam at least 3 months before the deadline for application to the nursing program of your choice. Applicants are allowed to take the exam twice in any admission cycle; however, you must wait at least six (6) weeks between tests for the second score to be used in the admission process.

How Do I Prepare for the TEAS-V?

The Study Manual for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Version Five is available for purchase at www.atitesting.com.  The study manual is also available for purchase from the Gadsden State Barnes and Noble bookstore (Wallace Drive Campus) or at www.gadsdenstcc.bncollege.com at a cost of $80 plus tax.

How Do I Register for the TEAS-V?

  • You must visit www.atitesting.com to register for the TEAS-V test.
  • Click on “create a new account” then follow the screen prompts to get you ATI username and password.
  • You will need your ATI username and password for online testing.
  • If taking a paper/pencil test, you will need an ATI Paper/Pencil ID number that will be displayed on the Student Home page under the Account Information section.  There is a link for you to print this information to bring to the testing site.
  • You will receive a Customer Receipt which includes any additional instructions for your assessment.  Your receipt will also be emailed to the email address listed in your profile.
  • Students should take a copy of their receipt to their testing site.
  • The cost to register for the TEAS is $40.00 (non-refundable)

 What Should I Do On My Scheduled Test Date?

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to testing time
  • Allow 4 hours in your schedule for the testing processBring to the testing site the following:
    • a government issued picture ID (driver’s license, passport, etc)
    • a printed receipt of confirmed registration
    • user name and password assigned during the registration process
    • Paper/Pencil ID number if taking a paper/pencil test
  • Please note:  calculators, cell phones, iPods and other electronic devices are not allowed
  • Please note:  late arrivals will not be allowed to test; therefore, the testing fee will be forfeited
  • Please note:  no breaks allowed during the testing process
  • Paper and pencils will be provided by the testing center staff

 

 Anything Else I Need to Know?

  • ATI assesses a $20.00 fee to transfer a TEAS-V score to a location other than your original test site
  • Missed exams are non-refundable; however, you may change a test date by contacting ATI at least 48 hours in advance of your originally scheduled testing date
  • TEAS-V is good for three years
  • TEAS-V may be repeated only once during any admission time frame.  The student must wait at least six weeks before testing again.  There is a charge of $40 for retesting.
  • Reasonable accommodations on this test are available for students with documented disabilities.  Prior to scheduling your appointment to take the TEAS-V, please contact Pam Mayo.
