2008 GSCC Pre-Season Volleyball
The 2008 Lady Cardinals Volleyball Team has seven strong sophomores
returning: Audra Oliver, Leshea Stokes, Emily Beard, LaTiergra Carter, Courtney Kinard, Miranda Love, and Jalissa Bothwell. Last years team made it all the way to the Alabama Community College Conference Div. 1 Championship match setting the bar high for the 2008 season. The Cardinals want to take a trip back to the NJCAA National Tournament in Missouri.
Audra Oliver, a 5’11” sophomore from Geraldine, AL is a middle hitter.
Audra does great things for the Cardinals. She is a team leader and has the desire to compete and win. Audra led our team in blocks and was 5th in the ACCC. Leshea Stokes, a 5’6” sophomore from Southside, AL is a very athletic setter. She had to step in late last season to set for us as a freshman and did an outstanding job. Emily Beard, a 5’8” sophomore from Pleasant Valley, AL is an outside hitter. Emily was very effective for us as an outside. Emily would get on a roll and was hard to stop.
LaTiegra Carter, a 5’10” sophomore from Gaston, AL is an outside hitter.
LaTiegra is one of our best defensive players on the Cardinal squad. She is also a very strong outside. LaTiegra is a team leader and wants our team to achieve many things. Courtney Kinard, a 5’11” from Normal, IL is an outside hitter. Courtney is one of our better jumpers and hits the ball very hard. She will be a big asset for us and is important to our success. Miranda Love, a 5’3” sophomore from Gaston, AL is a defensive specialist. Miranda has improved so much defensively from last year to this year. She has definitely earned her place on this team as a defensive threat. Jalissa Bothwell, a 5’11” sophomore from Gaston, AL is a middle hitter. Jalissa has big hands at the net producing a big block.
She is a hard working player that will help the lady cardinals.
The Lady Cardinals are welcoming seven freshmen this season: Katie Phillips, Brooke Roberts, Courtney Brand, Rebecca Beckham, Kristen Bullard, Alex Robertson, and Maggie Robinson.
Katie Phillips, a 6’0” freshman from Alexandria, AL is a middle hitter and standing at 6’0” will be a big presence at the net. Brooke Roberts, a 6’0” freshman from Geraldine, AL is a middle hitter. Brooke is very athletic and also stands at 6’0”. We are expecting Brooke to stand out and be hard to handle offensively and defensively. Courtney Brand, a 5’3”
freshman from Walnut Grove, AL is a defensive specialist. We are proud to have Courtney here at GSCC. She has started fall practice in great shape and her defensive skills are super for an incoming freshman.
Courtney will do great things as well. Rebecca Beckham, a 5’8” freshman from Southside, AL is an outside hitter. Rebecca is one of those players that touch balls as a blocker. She does it naturally and is also a very hard worker. Kristen Bullard, a 5’7” freshman from Southside, AL is a setter. Kristen has developed so much in the past two years as a setter.
She has the drive to win and compete. Kristen will be a big asset this year and help lead this team. Alex Robertson, a 5’8” freshman from Hokes Bluff, AL is a defensive specialist. Alex has a tough serve. She will also be a good defensive player for us. Alex also has a great work ethic. Maggie Robinson, a 5’11” freshman from Huntsville, AL is a middle hitter. Maggie will be an offensive threat as well as a good blocker for us. She is a real fundamental player and works hard at practice.
The Cardinals are expecting to do great things this year. Coach Reavis and Coach Clark compliment each other with their strengths and knowledge of certain aspects about the game. Here at GSCC we are looking for a fun and exciting year.
