Parking and Traffic Regulations

 

FAILURE TO READ REGULATIONS DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM THE REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS DESCRIBED HEREIN.

Any student registered at Gadsden State , part/full-time faculty/staff, or person enrolled in special/regular courses is subject to the following Parking and Traffic Regulations:

A.  Campus parking, traffic, and safety regulations are issued in addition to all applicable state laws and city ordinances and will be enforced by the Campus Security at all times.  Campus parking regulations apply to ALL persons while on campus.  Students may park in any designated parking place except those having a blue, yellow, or white curb.  Faculty/Staff may park in white curbed areas reserved for them or any other space except those having a blue or yellow curb.

B.  Motor Vehicle Registration:  All faculty/staff/students, part/full-time, having a motor vehicle or the use of one on campus, must register it with the INFORMATION OFFICE.  The registration fee for decals is included in tuition.  Hangtags are to be hung from the inside rearview mirror.  Students will be issued only one (1) free hangtag.  It is the student's responsibility to keep this hangtag available for use in the vehicle when parked on campus.  (The hangtag may be moved from one vehicle to another vehicle).  If a hangtag is lost or stolen, a student must purchase a new one.  The fee for a new hangtag is $10.00.

C.  Types of Hangtags:  Two types of hangtags are issued by the Information Office in the foyer of Allen Hall, Wallace Drive Campus:  (1) Faculty/Staff and (2) Student.  (Persons attending special classes must also get a student hangtag.)  Handicapped decals are available through the Revenue Commissioner's Office, Etowah County Court House.  Handicapped students are to have a Handicapped Decal and a student hangtag also.  All student hangtags expire August 31 of each year.

D.  General Regulations:  A student to whom the hangtag has been issued will be held responsible for any violation in which the vehicle is involved.  In the event of mechanical failure of a vehicle, the owner/driver will be responsible for its removal as soon as available services will permit.  The Information Office should be advised of its location.  The Security Office may CANCEL the registration of any vehicle.

E.  Regulations of Moving Vehicles and Fees Assessed:  The following shall be regarded as violations of the traffic and safety regulations:
1.  Exceeding 15 mph on campus $10.00
2.  Running a STOP sign $10.00
3.  Failing to YIELD $10.00
4.  Going the wrong way on a one-way street $10.00
5.  Making an illegal U-turn $10.00
6.  Reckless driving $10.00

F.  Parking Violations and Fees Assessed:  The following shall be regarded as violations of the  parking, traffic and safety regulations:
1.  No Hangtag $10.00
2.  Parking in inappropriate space:
     (1)  White Curbs-Reserved for Faculty/Staff Only $10.00
     (2)  Blue Curbs-Handicapped Only $50.00
     (3)  Yellow Curbs-No Parking any time  $10.00
     (4)  Loading Zone $10.00
3.  Backing into a parking space $10.00
4.  Improper Parking $10.00
5.  Improper display of hangtag $10.00
6.  Giving false information on application $10.00
7.  Removal of vehicle boot immobilizer $25.00
8.  Parking on grass $10.00
9.  Parking in fire hydrant restricted area $25.00
10.Other improper parking $10.00
 
G.  Violation of these regulations may result in the vehicle being immobilized with an auto boot. In case of vehicle immobilization, the driver should not attempt to move the vehicle, and should contact campus security immediately.
 

NOTE:  All assessed fees listed above will be doubled if they are not paid within one week of the assessment.  Also see item H below.
 

H.  Additional Penalties:  After a person receives three (3) tickets, the fine per ticket will increase on the fourth (4th) and succeeding tickets to $25.00 per ticket.

I.  Appeal Procedures:  Anyone desiring to appeal traffic and parking citations may appeal to the Campus Security Chief within five (5) days after receiving the citation.  The decision of the Campus Security Chief may be appealed in writing within five (5) days to a Traffic and Parking Committee appointed by the College President.  The decision of the Traffic and Parking Committee is final.

J.  Gadsden State Community College assumes no responsibility for damage to any vehicle brought to campus.
