Miss Gadsden State

Dear Miss Gadsden State Pageant Contestant:

Thank you for your interest and participation in the twelfth annual Miss Gadsden State Pageant. The pageant is fun and rewarding. Miss Gadsden State is part of the Miss America Organization, the world’s largest competitive scholarship program for young women and one of the nation’s leading achievement programs.

The pageant is much more than a “beauty contest!” Participants in this preliminary must exhibit talent and skill—90 second talent spot during the pageant plus several show dance numbers. Contestants will also select a “platform” on which they passionately hope to make a positive difference. The judging categories include interview, on-stage question, talent, evening wear, and swimsuit & fitness.

As a contestant, you are applying for an important job—that of Miss Gadsden State. She is a confident, attractive, and talented lady who is a role model for other young women. She is a leader and an articulate communicator. She represents Gadsden State during her year of service with pride throughout the community and at the Miss Alabama Pageant, which is another opportunity to earn scholarships in addition to the two semesters of scholarship at Gadsden State.

The Miss Gadsden State Pageant is November 9th. The deadline for turning in your completed two-page application is September 26th. We have an orientation meeting on Wednesday, September 26th, 2 p.m. in the band room in Wallace Hall. There is a full schedule of rehearsals from orientation through pageant night! We will discuss in detail the requirements of participation at orientation, but, in short, criteria required by Miss America for participating in Miss Gadsden State are the following:

No visible tattoos (even in bathing suit competition)
No visible body piercings other than one per ear
Must have always been a woman
Must have never given birth
Must have never been married
Must be a U.S. citizen

Shortly after the orientation meeting, contestants will provide the following:
5 X 7 Black and White Photo
Copy of Driver’s License
Notarized Birth Certificate
Resume (specific outline to be provided)
Essay about Platform (specific outline to be provided)
Talent (90 second on-stage performance)
Children’s Miracle Network contribution of at least $100.00
