Academic
The Academic Phase consists of 12 Saturday sessions from 9:00 am—1:00 pm. (October through April—classes meet twice monthly, normally the 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the month) This phase is designed to assist students in the area of Mathematics, English and Reading in an effort to enhance these skills. Tutoring is also available for those students that are in need.
Progress reports are sent to high school instructors to find out how our students are doing in their classes. Instructors are also able to express any concerns or suggestions.
Summer
The Summer Phase is a six-week program during the months of June and July that allows students the opportunity to experience college life. The program will also present the opportunity for students to enhance their academic and personal skills. Upward Bound offers classes in Mathematics, English, Science and Spanish. These classes are 55 minutes in length and are held Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am—11:55 am. Group sessions are held on Fridays from 8:00 am—10:30 am. Special features of the program are Life Skills, research projects; career, health and professional counseling as well as college campus visits.

Work Study Program: The Career Work-Study Program is offered during the six-week summer phase of the UB program.
Rising juniors and seniors are involved in a career work-study program that allows participants the opportunity to work in an environment that reflects his/her career choice, while being paid by the Upward Bound program. Students are placed in part-time jobs on campus and within the community, and given the opportunity to experience “hands on” knowledge of various careers. -
Bridge Program: Upward Bound graduates are enrolled during the summer at Gadsden State Community College as Bridge students. They all have the opportunity to experience the process of admissions, placement testing, registration and financial aid.
