System Requirements
Currently, Gadsden State Community College recommends use of the following browsers for Blackboard courses:
- Internet Explorer 7 or higher
- Firefox 3.0
- Safari 3 or higher
Sun™ Java™ Virtual Machine
For all operating systems, the supported version is Java Standard Edition 5 (1.5.0_12) and later. As of the release of Service Pack 1 the Java SE 6 runtime environment is also supported.
Blackboard™ Learn Release 9 Service Pack 1 was tested with a variety of platform technologies as well as common client-side technologies.

- Sun Java™ Runtime Environment 5 (JRE™ 5) is no longer supported. It may continue to work but Java 6 Update 13 is the only supported JRE.
- Firefox 1.x and 2.0 are not supported.
- Safari 2.0 is no longer supported.
- Internet Explorer 8 was tested in Standards Mode only. Internet Explorer 5 is not supported.
- Google Chrome is not supported.
- Mozilla™ Firefox 3.5 and Apple® Safari 4.0 were not released with adequate time to test against this release. These browsers are in Provisional Support.
