Gadsden State's Distance Learning & Learning Technologies
Welcome to Distance Learning & Learning Technologies at Gadsden State Community College. Our learning technologies are managed by Gadsden State’s Teaching & Learning Center. Whether you’re taking on-campus or online classes, Gadsden State offers a variety of technologies for instructors to utilize for their course delivery.
We are here to help both students and instructors succeed. If you want more information or if you’re having trouble with any of the instructional technologies at Gadsden State, you’re in the right place. We’re here to help.
Blackboard Learn is Gadsden State's Learning Management System (LMS). A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration and delivery of educational content in a virtual format. Colleges and universities use LMSs to deliver online courses and augment on-campus courses. Instructors also use LMSs supplement their lessons and instruction that is being delivered in an on-campus classroom.
Many instructors at Gadsden State use Blackboard to enhance their courses. Contact the Gadsden State Help Desk if you're having difficulty accessing your Blackboard account.
Panopto is the lecture capture solution that is used by a number of instructors at Gadsden State. Instructors can record live lectures, demonstrations, and/or supplemental materials. Additionally, instructors are able to capture their screen, audio, and/or video inputs from webcams and other devices. Panopto is integrated with Blackboard so videos may be viewed only by users enrolled in a Blackboard Course or made public for anyone to view.
Panopto offers a free mobile app that lets you access all of your course’s video content from your mobile device.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking exams in Blackboard. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Blackboard exam requires that Respondus LockDown Browser be used, the exam won't be accessible with a standard web browser. Respondus LockDown Browser should only be used for taking examinations in Blackboard. It should not be used in other areas of Blackboard.
Respondus Monitor is a companion product for LockDown Browser that enables institutions to protect the integrity of non-proctored, online exams. Students use their own computer and a webcam to record assessment sessions, all without leaving the institution's learning management system.
Turnitin is the leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention service used by millions of students and faculty, and thousands of institutions worldwide. Turnitin encourages best practices for using and citing other people’s written material. The service offers a complete web-based service to manage the process of submitting and tracking papers electronically, providing better—and faster—feedback to students.
Here’s how it works: An instructor sets up a class and an assignment in the Turnitin service. Students or instructors then submit papers to Turnitin via file upload or cut and paste. Turnitin’s proprietary software then compares the paper’s text to a vast database of 12+ billion pages of digital content (including archived internet content that is no longer available on the live web) as well as over 110 million papers in the student paper archive, and 80,000+ professional, academic and commercial journals and publications.
