| GSCC News Dove Real Beauty Campaign In an effort to help young girls gain confidence, Gadsden State Community College is teaming up with the “Dove Real Beauty Campaign” in a series of workshops designed to improve self-esteem. Dove Real Beauty Campaign Chairperson Sarah Eiland says that today’s young girls are often confused with the media emphasis on certain individuals and as a result may have less self-worth due to this influence. “What she needs to know is that her differences are what make her uniquely beautiful, along with her attitude and outlook on life,” Eiland explained. The “Dove Real Beauty Campaign” is designed to breakdown the media-influenced definition of beauty. The workshops these young ladies will be able to attend are focused on building and maintaining healthy self-esteem in a society influenced by the media. The workshops will be held at Browder Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus of Gadsden State on March 7 and 28, with a third one on the Ayers Campus in Anniston on April 25. Young ladies, eight to twelve years old from Etowah and Calhoun Counties, are invited to attend, however space is limited to fifty per workshop, so interested participants should register as soon as possible. The workshops will cover topics including self-esteem, family, community values and the influence of today’s media on young ladies. There will be handouts and activities with short videos. There is no charge to attend these workshops. Each participant is required to bring a responsible adult with her to serve as her mentor.
