| GSCC News Welding Competition High school and community college welding students will be visiting the East Broad Campus of Gadsden State Community College soon to exhibit their skills in a competition that could result in a trip to Kansas City for some of them. Frank Miller, welding technology instructor at Gadsden State, says that the Northeast Alabama District High School welding competition will take place on March 14, with students from nine high schools and the Anniston Army Depot participating. The top five will compete in the state contest to be held at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville on April 29. This is also the date for the Community College welding competition. Miller said that he expects about 25 to 30 students from community colleges to be on hand for this day of competition. The top winners will be going to the SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City in late June to compete for national honors. Miller said that the level of competition has continued to increase in both the high school and community college categories. One factor seems to be that more students are becoming interested in making welding technology their career choice. |
