The decision about which college
or university to attend is one of the most important you'll ever make. It is a
choice that will shape the rest of your life. You'll want to choose a college
that will meet not only your academic and/or technical needs but will give you
the individual attention to help you reach your goals as well. Your decision
should also make financial sense, particularly if you are not so sure about
your college major. It must be affordable and allow you some "slack" as you
decide about your future. That is why we invite you to consider Gadsden
State Community College
Program
Quality and Diversity
In selecting a
college, you are probably considering whether the institution offers your
intended major, whether you can receive help in choosing a major if you are
undecided about a course of study, and whether the program or courses are as
good as those at other institutions you are considering.
Well consider this! Gadsden State Community College is accredited by the Commission
on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866
Southern Lane; Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone Number 404.679.4501) to
award associate degrees. If your goal is a four-year degree or higher, GSCC
instructors will fully prepare you to begin work at any four-year institution
which you may choose to attend. (See
Accreditation)
Reports from some of the universities to which GSCC students transfer have
shown that GSCC students do as well as, and in some cases better than, students
who complete their first two years at the university. Many GSCC alumni have
graduated from four-year institutions with honors and have continued their
education to complete law school, medical school, pharmacy school, MBA
programs, and graduate degrees in other fields of study.
If you do not wish to study four years or more, GSCC offers over 50 one-year
and two-year career degrees and certificates which will qualify you to work in
a technical or career field. Instructors in the career and technical programs
meet the highest standards required by the Alabama State Department of
Education. College studies show that job placement for graduates of GSCC's
career and technical programs is at, and in some cases higher than, the
national average. Each year, students in many of GSCC's career and technical
programs distinguish themselves in statewide and national competitions.
Furthermore, students in the various two-year health career programs score at
or higher than the State average on State Board exams for their selected fields
of study.
Less
expensive
High quality at
a lower price! Although tuition in all of Alabama's two-year colleges has
increased over the years, Gadsden State is still a bargain compared to any of
the State's four-year colleges. Even though our instructors must meet the same
standards as instructors at four-year colleges, you will save an average of
$2,000 to $4,000 per year at GSCC. Our student-centered financial aid staff is
available to advise and assist financial aid applicants with every step of the
application process.
Students who do not qualify for federal financial aid may apply for various
institutional scholarships through the College Scholarship Office located in
Allen Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. In addition, students may apply to serve as a
member of the GSCC LASER program, which offers college tuition to students in
return for a specified number of hours of community service.
Gadsden
State is not only a good buy -- it's a smart buy!
