The College operates the Duplication Center, Print Shop, and
Media Production Services to meet the duplication and materials needs of the faculty, staff, and administration. The Services are
organized and operated to provide quality service using the most efficient means at the least possible cost. The Duplication
Center, Print Shop, and Media Production Services are under the supervision of the Head of Library Services.
Duplication Center
Procedures
In order to provide necessary service the following guidelines or procedures must be followed:
- Only materials which support instructional or administrative needs at GSCC will be duplicated or reproduced. Users must pay a nominal charge for personal copying.
- The user must provide a clear, dark master copy.
- Unless specifically requested in writing, copies will be printed front and back in order to save paper.
- To get materials duplicated or copied on time, users must get materials into the Center in advance of need. The Center will operate on a first come, first serve basis. The following schedule is observed but may be adjusted to a longer time period
- "while you wait"
- service on already prepared copy of short runs {Twenty-four hours for long runs During examination periods {mid-terms, finals},
- The Center will collate, sort, and staple runs of various quantities.
- Equipment will be operated by the Center's staff only. No exceptions.
- Paper will be provided by the Center, and the department requesting the duplication will be charged for the number of copies run. {Inquire about special paper, i.e. colors, thickness, texture.}
- A schedule of the hours of operation is posted on the door. In order to provide security for your tests and other materials, no one will have access to the Center at times other than those posted. If you need to pick up your copies after Center Hours, please write this on your duplication request. You may then pick up your copies at the Circulation Desk. Regular operation hours are as follows:

- Copyright regulations relative to the copying of materials must be followed. If copyrighted permission is
required, the person requesting copying must obtain the necessary copyright permission and furnish proof of this
permission to the Duplication Center in writing.
Media Production Services
The Media Production Services Department will:
- Duplicate a variety of print materials for faculty and administration.
- Copy video tapes for TV and Videotape courses.
- Copy audio tapes for students enrolled in Court Reporting, Shorthand, and Language courses.
- Produce signs and posters.
- assist users in the operation of audiovisual equipment.
- Laminate print materials.
Background
Although quality has vastly improved and quantity has greatly increased during recent years, there still exists a
need for non-print media to meet the demands of the curriculum in the community college. Some local production
of materials may be necessary to meet specific needs of students.
Policy
The GSCC Library System will make every effort, utilizing local media production staff and resources, to
support the faculty in their instructional endeavors through the production and effective utilization of media which
will enhance the learning experience of learners.
Procedures
- To discuss your media needs and the best way to fill them, call Dorothy Burgess, 256-549-8410, at Meadows Library.
- Requests for media production must be made on the proper forms. Please contact the Circulation Desk of Meadows Library, 256-549-8333, to obtain the forms
- Requests for media production must be approved by academic supervisors.
- Materials for all media production {audio tapes, video tapes, transparency film, poster paper, etc.} must be provided by the requester.
- Schedule video tape copying well in advance of your anticipated need.
- Allow at least three days from the time media production is ordered for the production of transparencies, lamination, dry mounting, sign printing, etc.
- Contact the Media Services Office, 256-549-8414, regarding the regulations concerning the duplication of audio and video tapes.
- Copyright regulations relative to the reproduction of materials must be strictly followed.
