Gadsden, Ala.–Mr. Pierce C. Cain, the founding president of Harry M. Ayers State Technical College, now named the Ayers Campus of Gadsden State Community College, passed away on August 24, 2009. Mr. Cain was a great educator in Calhoun County, a former teacher, coach and principal.

Gadsden, Ala.–Dr. Cheryl Cephus-Vickers, Gadsden State Community College director of career services, recently received the Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers (AACE) Service Award for Outstanding New Professional of the Year during the association’s annual summer conference. The AACE is a consortium of career service professionals and employers throughout the state of Alabama.
The Gadsden State Community College Division of Nursing Education recently held its pinning ceremony for the Licensed Practical Nursing Programs at the Cherokee, McClellan and Valley Street Campuses. Several awards were presented during the ceremony held at the Community Meeting Room on the Gadsden State Cherokee Campus in Centre. The Valley Street Campus Lamplighter Award for the highest overall GPA was presented to Tiffany Howlett. Brandi Mackey and Tammie Tucker were selected by classmates to receive the Florence Nightingale Award for their commitment to caring and compassionate nursing care. The Cherokee Campus Lamplighter Award was presented to Chasity Stanford and Crystal McElroy received the Florence Nightingale Award. The 2009 summer graduates:
Gadsden, Ala.–Figures compiled by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) show that Gadsden State Community College’s athletic teams are excelling in academics as compared with other two-year colleges across the nation.
