Chancellor Heinrich to speak at Commencement Dec. 20

Gadsden State Fall Commencement Dec. 20

The Fall Commencement Ceremony for Gadsden State Community College will be held Thursday, December 20 at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center in Gadsden at 7:00 p.m.  Dr. Mark A. Heinrich, chancellor of the Alabama Community College System will address the graduates.

Heinrich holds a doctorate in counseling from The University of Alabama, and earned both his B.S. and M.A. degrees in psychology from Tennessee Tech University.  His higher education career spans more than 30 years, during which he’s held leadership roles in academic, student service and technical/vocational areas.   In addition to positions in academia, Heinrich worked as a private practitioner in psychology and serves on numerous community and academic boards.  Throughout his career, he has been very involved with all aspects of accreditation, strategic planning, program and curriculum development, budget planning and development, enrollment management and many other administrative responsibilities typically associated with higher education.

Heinrich believes strong college‐community relationships are paramount to the health of the system’s institutions and critical to the economies of their local communities. He has worked with many of the state’s workforce partners and believes that the Alabama Community College System holds the key to the state’s workforce needs.

Spring 2013 Registration Ed Briefs/ACCC Volleyball Honors

SPRING SEMESTER REGISTRATION BEGINS NOVEMBER 26

Gadsden State Community College’s Priority Online Registration for Spring Semester 2013 begins at noon Monday, November 26.  Students currently enrolled who have completed 24 semester hours at Gadsden State, and have a 2.0 GPA or higher qualify.  Regular online registration for spring begins at noon Tuesday, November 27, and onsite registration begins at 8 am Wednesday, November 28.  Go to www.gadsdenstate.edu to view the Spring Semester schedule and to log on to the student online system to register.  For more information contact the Registrar’s office at 256-549-8259.  Spring semester classes begin January 9, 2013.

STATE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Gadsden State Community College students will be dismissed from classes November 19-21 in order for faculty and staff to attend state and local professional development meetings.  The college will close November 22-23 in observance of Thanksgiving and no weekend classes will meet.  Fall semester classes will resume at their regular time on Monday, November 26.

GED Graduation December 10

The Gadsden State Community College Adult Education Department will hold its Fall GED Graduation Ceremony on Monday, December 10, at Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center in Gadsden at 7:00 p.m.  Dean Tim Green will be the speaker for the ceremony and the reception will be provided by Altrusa International.  The public is invited to attend.  For more information about GED or Adult Education Services contact Johnny Baker at 256-835-5462 or jbaker@gadsdenstate.edu.

Cardinal Volleyball Players Receive Conference Honors

Five members of the Gadsden State Community College volleyball team recently received Alabama Community College Conference Region 22 honors.  Peri Bryant of Ohatchee, Peyton Higgins of Boaz, and Devonna Taylor of Alexandria were named to the All-Region First Team.  Amy Estes of Jacksonville was named to the All-Region Second Team.  Taylor was also named to the All-Tournament team along with Kayla Howard of Alexandria. Mike Cancilla, Gadsden State athletic director, stated, “Our coaching staff continues to recruit highly talented players who represent Gadsden State not only on the court but in the classroom.  The Lady Cardinals, coached by Angie Sanders and Connie Clark, hosted the regional tournament at Beck Field House earlier this month.
