The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) has a very active chapter at Gadsden State Community College. Over 400 students have joined as prospective members since the chapter was established in 2007. Each year 20-30 students complete the strict membership requirements to be inducted as fully-fledged members. National Society membership is not tied
College Transfer Day, Jan. 30
Gadsden State will host its annual Transfer Day on Thursday, January 30 at the Ayers and Wallace Drive campuses. The Ayers session will be held from 8:00-9:30 a.m. on the 2nd floor of the Cheaha Career Center. The Wallace Drive session will be held in the Inzer Student Center Cafeteria from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Representatives from four-year colleges and universities will be present to answer questions and provide prospective students with information on scholarships, financial aid, and housing. “SMARTHINKING” ONLINE TUTORING AVAILABLE
Gadsden State’s on-demand student tutorial support “SMARTHINKING” is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to offer academic assistance to currently enrolled students. Students can connect with a tutor and interact live, submit writings to the Online Writing Lab, as well as, submit questions, formulas, math problems, etc. This free service provides students with 180 minutes of tutoring to receive support and study resources in areas such as math, writing, and science. Need Help? Blackboard Assistance Available
The Counseling and Advising Center will provide Blackboard assistance each week for all currently enrolled students on Monday from 8:00-9:00 a.m., Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m., and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Student s may take advantage of this service by visiting the Counseling & Advising Center located in Room 147 of Allen Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden. The 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Initiative Health Fair sponsored by Gadsden State Community College is scheduled for Monday, January 20. The event will be held in the auditorium of the East Broad Campus administration building from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Approximately 20 vendors and health agencies will be participating this year and members of the Lambda Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will provide assistance with the fair.
Quality of Life Health Care Services, Inc. will provide a speaker and health information concerning the Affordable Care Act and the American Red Cross will provide educational information. The Health Fair will offer free tests and screenings for blood pressure/sugar, cholesterol, HIV, and oxygen saturation tests. In addition, information will be available related to substance abuse, breast cancer, prostate cancer, senior health, home health, kidney disease, and diabetes.
Students from Gadsden State’s Therapeutic Massage Program will participate in the fair and offer free massages. Volunteers from RSVP will be available to assist participants in filing federal and state tax returns for 2013.
