April is Community College Month

 April is National Community College Month and Gadsden State is celebrating with various activities for students and the community. “Caring for the Community” is the theme for this year’s annual observance, with campus

drive competitions kicking-off the festivities.  All six campuses are accepting donations for individual charity drives throughout the month.  The Ayers Campus is collecting toiletries, including diapers/wipes; Cherokee Center and Valley Street Campus are accepting paper products; East Broad Campus is collecting clothing (new or clean/slightly used); McClellan Center is collecting non-perishable food items; and the Wallace Drive Campus is collecting new toys and individually wrapped snacks/juice appropriate for young children. Local organizations such as the Center of Concern, Children’s Center, Crisis Center, and Open Hands will receive the donated items.

Activities during the month include the following:

4   Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony, Wallace Hall Fine Arts Ctr., 6 pm

Honor’s Day Program, Wallace Hall Fine Arts, 10 am (Gadsden)

5   Honor’s Day Program, McClellan Center Aud., 10 a.m. (Anniston)

6   Office of eLearning presents First Friday Tech Tips for faculty

10   Tuesday Topics, Director of Auburn University’s Canine Institute, McClellan Center, 11 a.m.

11    SGA/Red Cross Blood Drive, Gadsden State Cherokee, 9  am –  2 pm  

12   G-Day 2012: “Gettin’ Tiki with It” for students/faculty/staff, 10 – 2 pm

13    International  Festival: “Bringing the World Together,” Gadsden’s Convention Hall, doors open at 4:30 p.m.

   AARP Driver Safety Program, Ayers Campus LRC Auditorium, 8 am-5 pm

The Southern Belle Dancers and Show Band will perform at local schools throughout the month and proclamations recognizing April as Community College Month will be presented by county officials within the College’s service areas.
