Camp Cardinal for grades K-8
Summer vacation days are rapidly approaching, and Gadsden State Community College is prepared to meet the annual challenge of finding a good
way for children to spend them with Camp Cardinal 2012.
In its 23rd year of providing quality summer programs for school-aged children, Gadsden State has revamped offerings to give a wider variety of activities to individualize the summer experience for all children participating. These specialty camps will begin May 29 in Anniston and June 4 in Gadsden and Centre.
As always, campers will enjoy exciting, fun, and educational classes with hands-on learning and exploration activities in reading, art, math, science, outdoor education, creative writing, fine arts, and athletics, guided by instructors who are certified teachers or experts in their fields.
For K-2nd Grade, weekly camps will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Classes are Monday through Friday and the cost is $80 per week. Students can attend one week of camp or all eight weeks.
For grades 3-5 and 6-8, specialty camps are offered Monday through Thursday, in four three-hour sessions (unless otherwise specified), from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Campers may attend one or both camps per week. They also have the option to attend camps every week, or just the camps that interest them. From math to Mythbusters, from Dr. Seuss to Spanish Survival, there are camps to capture the interest and imagination of any child.
The cost of the Specialty Camps is $45 per camp, with a $5 discount if students are registered for the morning and afternoon camp in the same week. Fees do not include the cost of lunch and snacks, for either the K-2nd grade camps or the 3rd-8th grade camps. Early drop-off (from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.) and late pick-up (4:00 to 5:30 p.m.) is available for campers.
Participants must pre-register for all classes and space is limited to 20 children per camp. Deadline for registration is May 29. Call today to secure space. Details about each of the camps and the times and locations they will be offered can been found at www.gadsdenstate.edu/academics/continuing-education, or by calling 256-549-8305 or 256-549-8462.
