Women’s History Month Event/Early College Enrollment/Safe Spring Break

Gadsden State Celebrates Women History Month

The Gadsden State Library will be hosting an event on Wednesday, March 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in room 111 of the Meadows Library on the Wallace

Drive Campus in Gadsden to celebrate National Women’s History Month.  The library will show scenes from the Ken Burns documentary “Not for Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.”  Following the film there will be a discussion from Dr. Paula Ross-Derrick and Mr. Joshua Bearden about the women’s rights movement and the relevance of women in American history.  All students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to attend this free event.  Refreshments will be provided.  For more information contact Dusty Folds at 256-549-8421.

Early College Enrollment Program

Gadsden State is offering an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to take advantage of the 2013-2014 Early College Enrollment Program (ECEP).  ECEP, now in its seventh year at Gadsden State, enables students who have an interest in high-wage/high-demand technical majors to work toward a college degree with free tuition provided, while completing their requirements for high school graduation.  The program is a partnership between the Alabama Community College System, State Department of Education, Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, and the Department of Postsecondary Education.

The basic requirements for participation include: a strong interest in a technical college program, a minimum GPA of 2.5, recommendation and approval from high school counselor and principal, approval from the school system superintendent, and successful completion of all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.

Applications for ECEP are located in the high school counselor’s office, and printable applications can be found at http://www.gadsdenstate.edu/current-students/jobs/documents/ECEPApplication.pdf.  Additional information that must be submitted with application packets include: the ECEP Guidelines Signature Page, high school transcripts, and the letter of recommendation and approval.  Completed applications must be returned or mailed by March 29, 2013 to: Kathy Gillison-Parker, GSCC Office of Career Services, P.O. Box 227, Gadsden, AL 35902-0227.

Safe Spring Break 2013

The Gadsden State Human Services Program presents Safe Spring Break 2013 Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The event will be held  in the Inzer Hall Breezeway located on the Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden and will include information, activities, games, and prizes geared toward promoting a safe spring break for students.  For more information contact Tina Whittington at twhittington@gadsdenstate.edu or 256-549-8476.
