Gadsden State Community College will offer AMSTI “Aiming Higher” Summer Institute for Professional Development workshops for high school math and science teachers in June.
The math workshop entitled “I Did Use Algebra after High School” will equip teachers with ways to better convey this message to their students. Two sessions will be offered for math teachers with the first being held in Gadsden June 16-19 and one in Centre June 23-26. Two science sessions on “The Hip Bones Connected to the Leg Bone”: The Musculoskeletal System will be held June 9-12 and 16-19 in Gadsden. Science teachers will receive instructional supplies including a skeleton, dissection kits, and computer software. In addition to the instructional materials, teachers attending the workshops will receive $100 per day stipends. All sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. daily. Funding for these professional development workshops is provided 100% by the Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant, (AMSTI) Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative in a grant to Gadsden State.
