2014 All-Alabama Academic Team Members

Two students were selected to represent Gadsden State Community College as members of the All-Alabama Academic Team. Andrew McMillan of Southside and Trois White of Boaz will be honored at a dinner in Montgomery where they will be recognized by the Alabama Community College System and receive $1,000 academic scholarships from the All-USA Academic Program. Both students have volunteered their time participating in various campus and community functions.

McMillan, a pre-engineering major, plans to become a chemical engineer. At Gadsden State he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government Association, Science, Math, and Engineering Club, and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.  “Participating in these clubs inspired me to volunteer in my community and become a better leader,” said McMillan.

White is also a pre-engineering major and plans to get a degree in aerospace engineering with hopes of working as an engineer for Boeing or NASA.  He is president of the Rho Rho Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, co-captain of the men’s tennis team, and a mathematics tutor at Gadsden State. White remarked, “Being a math tutor has been one of my most significant endeavors. I have grown as a teacher and a person.”

All-Alabama Academic team members are nominated by the faculty and reviewed by a selection committee. To be eligible, students must have a 3.25 minimum GPA, complete at least 12 hours at the nominating college, and be involved in campus activities. Each community college in the Alabama Community College System nominates two students. The team nominees are also entered in the All-USA Academic team competition, which is sponsored by USA Today and Phi Theta Kappa.
