The annual show is a culmination of hard work and discipline by art students, most of whom are primarily taking introductory studio classes including two-dimensional design, Drawing I, and Painting. The show itself is also a valuable learning experience, as students are tasked with framing and displaying their artwork in a professional, gallery-ready manner. This year’s exhibition features two-dimensional works, most of them paintings, by fourteen different students.

Several exhibiting students received state-wide recognition for their creative works in the most recent Chancellor’s Art Exhibition, including best of show by Sarah VanVleck, and second place in drawing by Nathaniel Byrd.

One of the exhibiting students, Jennifer Allen, recently completed an internship with the Gadsden Musuem of Art and the Mary G. Hardin Center, where she learned many of the day-to-day aspects of running a fine art gallery, such as curatorial work with permanent collections and assisting with installing artwork for temporary display.   She earned college credit for the internship and worked closely with Mario Gallardo who oversees the program.

In addition, the art department students have participated in community outreach activities such as the Annual Serendipity Day at Eura Brown Elementary School, Walnut Gallery, and the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts.
