Student’s participating in the summer continuing education program at the Ayers Campus of Gadsden State Community College are getting an opportunity to build a go-kart. The goal of this program, which is being held at the Anniston High School Career Technology Center, is to learn teamwork while using multiple skills including math and critical thinking. Students will utilize
all phases of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Initiative during the class. Bentley Porterfield is the camp instructor.
This educational project is the product of a partnership with Anniston City School’s Summer STEM Camp Program, the Public Education Foundation of Anniston, and Gadsden State. Shernevelyn Hill, Ayers Campus GED and continuing education manager, said, “We are so proud of what these students have accomplished and look forward to seeing the finished go-kart. The learning experience for these students has been extraordinary.” The students will showcase their project on Friday, July 18 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at Anniston High School.
