ACT Prep, Driver’s Ed & Other Courses Offered through Continuing Ed.
The Gadsden State Continuing Education Department will offer classes this fall with high school students in mind as well as lifelong learners. By taking advantage of the ACT Prep, high school juniors and seniors will have an opportunity to prepare before the final 2014 ACT Test date of December 13 and meet the mid-December scholarship deadlines for many 4-year
colleges and universities. ACT Prep classes will be offered in 2-day sessions on August 23 & September 6, October 11 & 18, and November 22 & December 6 in Brown Hall on the East Broad Campus in Gadsden. Class sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at noon. The cost is $45.00 per student and space is limited.
Driver’s Education classes will be offered at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre each Saturday in September and at the East Broad Campus each Saturday in October from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cost for the class is $150.00 per person and certificates will be awarded after completion of the class. Other classes being offered to the public include Basic Digital Photography, Photoshop CS6, Introduction to Spanish, Sign Language I, Arabic, and Medical Coding. McClellan Bookworms Fall Semester Reading
The McClellan Bookworms will begin their fifth year of reading together on Friday, September 26. Monthly meetings will be held at the McClellan Center Conference Room at 10:00 a.m. The book of the month for September is The Girls from Corona del Mar by Rufi Thorpe. Other books that will be featured this fall include Euphoria by Lily King (October), Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler (November), and The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron (December). Flag Football & Kickball at Gadsden State
Gadsden State Student Activities is sponsoring Fall Flag Football games each Wednesday beginning September 24 through October 15. All games will be held at the Youth Soccer Fields (Wallace Drive) at 3:00 p.m. Team roster deadline is September 17 at 2:00 p.m. at which time a team captain meeting will be held in room 140 Inzer Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. A Kickball Tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at the Youth Soccer Fields at 3:00 p.m. Roster deadline is September 3. Players for both intramural events may be male or female but must be Gadsden State students or employees. Varsity players are excluded. American Red Cross/SGA Blood Drives at GSCC
The Gadsden State Student Government Association is sponsoring several blood drives during the fall semester in conjunction with the American Red Cross. The mobile unit will be at the Valley Street Campus Tuesday, September 16. The second drive will be held Wednesday, September 24 at Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus. In October, drives will be held at the Ayers Campus in Anniston on Tuesday, October 14 and Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre on Thursday, October 16. The final drive of the semester will be held December 2 at Beck Field House. The time for all of the drives is 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The American Red Cross indicates that Alabama blood drives continue to be down across the state and the blood supply is critically low.
