The 17th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Initiative Health Fair sponsored by Gadsden State Community College is scheduled for Monday, January 19. The event will be held in the auditorium of the East Broad Campus administration building from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Approximately 20 vendors and health agencies will be participating. Members of the Lambda Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will provide assistance with the fair.
College Transfer Day, Jan. 29
Gadsden State will host its annual Transfer Day on Thursday, January 29 at the Ayers and Wallace Drive campuses. The Ayers session will be held from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. on the 2nd floor of the Cheaha Center. The Wallace Drive session will be held in the Inzer Student Center Cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Representatives from four-year colleges and universities will be present to answer questions and provide prospective students with information on scholarships, financial aid, and housing. 3 on 3 Intramural Basketball
Gadsden State Student Activities is sponsoring 3-on-3 intramural basketball for the spring semester. Games are scheduled for each Wednesday in February at the Gadsden Middle School Gymnasium located at 612 Tracy Street. Veterans Upward Bound at Gadsden State
The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program at Gadsden State will host an Open House for students, staff, faculty, and community members on Monday, January 12 at the Wallace Drive Campus (Gadsden) and Tuesday, January 13 at the Ayers Campus (Anniston) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. On January 20, VUB Tech Tuesday will be held at all locations from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Veterans should bring their own technical device. The VUB Program is open to all veterans. Military veterans residing in Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Marshall, St. Clair or Talladega County are invited to take advantage of the free services offered through the VUB Program. Veterans do not have to be enrolled at Gadsden State or any other college or university in order to participate. Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a TRiO program funded 100% by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. New Student Registration for Free GED Classes
Morning registration for free GED classes at Gadsden State Community College’s Ayers Campus will be held every Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. and evening registration will be held at 4:45 p.m. every 1st and 3rd Wednesday (no late arrivals). New students for the Ayers Campus may register by coming to the Cheaha Career Center, Room 126, in Anniston. GED classes meet Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Evening classes meet from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. GED classes are free, and are open to all adults 17 or older who have not finished high school. Those who are 16 or 17 years old must call 256-835-5462 prior to registration. Classes are designed to improve reading, writing, and math skills, and increase general knowledge in social studies and general science. Upon completion of GED, students are eligible for one free class at any two-year college in the state of Alabama.
