Gadsden State Community College is gearing up for its annual Homecoming basketball games on Nov. 14. The women’s Cardinal team takes on Chattahoochee Technical College at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. Both games are at the Belk Field House on Gadsden State’s Wallace Drive campus.
“We encourage our students, alumni and supporters to participate in this year’s homecoming festivities,” said Whitney Hall, enrollment specialist and coordinator of homecoming events. “It’s a wonderful way for current students to show their Cardinal pride and for alumni to reconnect with former classmates.”
Through Nov. 14, students are encouraged to post photos on MyGadsdenState social media sites dressed in their best Gadsden State gear.
“Students can enter every day if they want to,” Hall said. “The winner will be announced on Nov. 14 and will receive a Gadsden State prize pack.”
To enter the Gadsden State Gear contest, students can post the photos to @MyGadsdenState on Twitter and Instagram and @MyGSCC on Snapchat.
Also, officers in the Student Government Association will be taking over the MyGadsdenState social media sites during Homecoming Week. You can follow the officers during their busy lives as students at Gadsden State. Jake Leath, SGA secretary, will be online Nov. 8 followed by Jasmine Adams, SGA vice president on Nov. 9 and Bethany Walker, SGA president, on Nov. 10.
The Circle K student service organization, the SGA and Swoop, Gadsden State’s mascot, will be on-hand Nov. 9 at the annual Veterans’ Day Parade in downtown Gadsden. Student organizations that would like to participate in the parade should email Matthew Burttram in the Counseling and Advising Office at email@example.com.
On Nov. 10, the SWOOP Scavenger Hunt will take place on Gadsden State’s campuses in Calhoun County – the Ayers Campus and the McClellan Center. Clues for the scavenger hunt will be announced in Banner, Gadsden State’s student intranet, as well as Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat Thursday morning.
On Nov. 14 – Homecoming Day – the SGA will hand out free drinks and popcorn from noon to 1 p.m. in the breezeway at Inzer Hall.
Voting will also close for the Homecoming Queen and King. The court will include six female and six male representatives. Members of the court will be announced Nov. 9 on MyGadsdenState social media sites. Voting will take place in Banner. The court will be presented and winners announced during the halftime of the men’s basketball game.
Admission to the homecoming basketball games is $5 for those 13 and up. Current Gadsden State students are admitted free-of-charge by showing their valid student ID. For more information about homecoming festivities, please contact Whitney Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org.
