Gadsden State to have commencement ceremony Dec. 19
The Fall Commencement for Gadsden State Community College will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 at Wallace Hall.
Featured speakers will be Gadsden State students Jaleel Burton, Randall Lynn White and Kissy Conwell.
Burton is a graduate of Walter Wellborn High School in Anniston. A student at Gadsden State’s McClellan Center, he serves as a tutor and volunteers extensively in his hometown. After graduation, he will attend Jacksonville State University to pursue his goal of becoming a math tutor.
White graduated from Geraldine High School in 1988. After working as a truck driver for 20 years, he came to Gadsden State to pursue his certification in carpentry. He currently works for Gadsden Job Corps as a carpentry instructor.
Conwell graduated from Gadsden High School in 1996. She spent two decades in the workforce before enrolling at Gadsden State to pursue a degree in psychology. She plans to transfer to JSU through the JSU Fusion Program, which is designed to smooth the transitions for Gadsden State student who transfer to JSU.
Graduates will be presented by Pamela Johnson, associate dean of Institutional Advancement and Community Services, and Dr. James Prucnal, dean of Financial and Administrative Services. Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. The Gadsden State A Capella Choir and will perform. Deborah Gay Utz, radiologic technology instructor, will serve as the Commencement Grand Marshal.
