Gadsden State Community College will host the Alabama SkillsUSA Northeast District Conference for secondary education Friday. The Northeast District includes Blount, Cherokee, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson, Madison, Marshall and Morgan counties.
Two students from each of the Career Technology Centers located in these counties will compete in the district competition. The top five students chosen from each district will advance to compete at the state level with the first place winner in the state contest competing for national honors in June.
During the day, students will participate in a variety of leadership and occupationally related competitions that include customer service, job interview, job skill demos, quiz bowl, related technical math, state program covers and state tee shirt design.
Skilled and technical competitions include auto/diesel, carpentry, electrical construction wiring, technical drafting, welding and electronics. The competitions will take place on the East Broad and Valley Street campuses.

Dillon Griffon, president of SkillsUSA Alabama high school division and Dr. Philip Cleveland, deputy superintendent of Workforce Development and Alabama SkillsUSA Board president are expected to be in attendance for the awards ceremony.
