Gadsden State student-athletes Raven Cooley and Jaylen Hill were recently honored at the conclusion of the Alabama Community College Conference Region XXII North Division basketball tournament. Cooley, a freshman guard from Anniston was named to the North Division second team. She averaged 10.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for the Lady Cardinals.
Gadsden State offers new program to earn high school diploma

The path to high school graduation can come with many roadblocks, like health issues, poverty, failing grades or a negative environment. Though graduation rates are increasing nationwide, data from the U.S. Census Bureau states that almost 12 percent of Alabama adults ages 25-64 do not have their high school diploma. A new partnership between the Alabama Community College System and the Alabama State Department of Education is working to improve that statistic.

ACCS Board of Trustees approves $25 million bond issue

The Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees formally authorized the issuance of $25 million in limited obligation revenue bonds (Series 2017) to Gadsden State Community College. ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker confirmed the March 15 approval in a letter to Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State.
Lavender said the bonds will be used to construct a new science building on the college’s East Broad Campus, an addition to the Cheaha Career Center on the Ayers Campus and renovations to Allen Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus.

The Cardinal Arts Journal is a student-driven publication of Gadsden State Community College.
The CAJ publishes original artwork, creative non fiction, fiction, photography, and poetry from GSCC students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of our community.
Humanities and Honors
The Gadsden State Language and Humanities department is happy to offer courses in both Spanish and German. We are living in an increasingly international world. Doctors, factory supervisors, business owners, clients, and students are frequently speaking in shared languages rather than native tongues, and flexibility in this area is a valuable job skill proven to increase success in multiple job sectors.
