BIOLOGY 201 STUDY GUIDE -Chapter 5
 

  1.    You should be able to list the four major types of tissues and know their descriptions.

   2.    You should know how epithelial tissues are classified.  You should know the following terms:  free surface, basement membrane, goblet cell, cilia, microvilli.  You should know the location and function of all epitheliums we discussed.  You should also know:  endocrine, exocrine, merocrine, apocrine, and holocrine glands.

   3.    You should know the location and function of all connective tissues we discussed.  You should also know the following terms:  matrix, fibroblast, macrophage, mast cells, collagenous fiber, elastic fiber, reticular fiber.

   4.    You should know the structures associated with all varieties of muscle tissue including striations, number and location of nuclei, intercalated disc, etc.  You should also know the location and function of all varieties of muscle tissue.

   5.    You should know the structures and functions associated with nervous tissue including the following terms:  neuron, cell body, dendrites, and axon.
