BIO 202 Test 1 Study Guide
1. Know the function, hyperfunction, and hypofunction associated with all endocrine hormones. 2. Know the specific gland and region of gland (such as adrenal medulla, adrenal cortex, anterior pituitary,etc.) where each hormone is secreted. 3. Be able to visually recognize and label endocrine glands. 4. Explain the difference between: exocrine and endocrine glands, protein hormones and steroid hormones, hormones and prostaglandins, hypersecretion and hyposecretion. 5. Know specific functions and characteristics of the following: all types of WBCs (leukocytes), RBCs (erythrocytes), platelets (thrombocytes), and bone marrow. 6. Various blood conditions: all types of anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, all types of abnormally low and high blood cell conditions, embolus, and thrombus. 7. Be able to list the four blood types and tell which is the universal recipient and which is the universal donor. 8. Explain all steps involved in hemostasis (controlling blood loss) including vessel spasm, platelet plug formation, and development of blood clot. 9. Be able to explain the function of all heart structures (including associated vessels). 10. Be able to label a diagram of the heart. 11. Explain what is going on in the P wave, QRS complex, and T wave. 12. Explain what a blood pressure of 120/80 means (in detail). 13. Be able to define heart irregularities: bradychardia, tachycardia, fibrillation, myocardial infarction, mitral valve prolapse. 14. Be able to describe the flow of blood through the heart from the Vena cava through the Aorta. (in detail) 15. Be able to define various types of blood vessels and various layers of a major vessel. 16. Be able to recognize (from diagram) the following arteries: anterior tibial, aorta, axillary, brachiocephalic, brachial, coronary, carotid, femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, radial, subclavian, ulnar. 17. Be able to recognize (from diagram) the following veins: anterior tibial, basilica, brachiocephalic, cephalic, common iliac, femoral,great saphenous, inferior vena cava, internal jugular, posterior tibial, subclavian, superficial temporal, superior vena cava.
