BIOLOGY - Dr. B. D. Tucker, Jr.

Lab Practical Fundamentals

  1. DO NOT BE LATE.  The practical will start on time, the door will be locked.  No

student will be allowed to join the practical once it has started.

  1. Turn all cell phones off during the practical. Be considerate of other student’s

thoughts.

  1. All purses and books will be stowed in a central location; access to them will not be allowed once the test begins.

  2. If  microscopes are involved, the following rules apply:

    1. Only touch the fine focus knob.  This allows each student to get a “Good

Look” at the tissue.

    1. If cannot focus, raise hand.  If this can’t be fixed in 5-10 seconds, the

Instructor will call time “STOP”.  At this point, all students will stand down; the test will stop much like a race when the caution flag comes out.

When the problem is corrected the instructor will allow the test to begin

again. Students will not be penalized for time loss, that is ,students will

have adequate time to finish that station.

  1. Pay attention to the “Directional Flow” of the practical.  It only takes one student

missing a station to create an atmosphere of chaos.

  1. After all stations have been completed there will be a 5 minute “Free Play” period, during which students can check spelling and re-visit some stations.

  2. Be sure to put your 1st answer on the appropriate blank.  Failing to do this will result in every answer being wrong.  Therefore, when you arrive @ your 1st station, circle that # on your answer sheet to ensure you will record your answers in the correct place.
