As a community development center, the Neighborhood Network targets residents of public housing. The focus is the family unit – children and parents. The Network emphasizes education, physical and mental health, economic development, and community revitalization. Programs and services include Adult Basic Education, America Reads, cultural enrichment, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring. The residents of public housing are encouraged to take continuing education and personal enrichment courses and, when eligible, to pursue certificates and associate degrees in disciplines related to their individual interests.
The Network office is located at 1116-A Jacksonville Court in the Carver Village Public Housing Community, Gadsden, Alabama. For more information, contact Ms. Sharon McGruder, program coordinator, at (256) 547-7125. The Neighborhood Network Community Development Center is funded by a U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant through its Historically Black College and University (HBCU) program.
