From your first contact with GSCC, our top priority is your success! Beginning with the Admissions/Success Center, where you will apply for admission and at every other stop along the way, you will find counselors, advisers and office staff who care about helping you reach your educational goal.
Career and Counseling Center is available to currently enrolled students and to anyone who may wish to do some career exploration prior to enrolling. The Center offers career advisement and planning, interest tests, schedule planning for undeclared majors and college transfer information.A Career Exploration Class (ORI 100) is also offered to assist with career planning.
The Arledge Center for Adult Learners assists non-traditional age college students (25 and older) who have graduated from high school or have a GED. The staff specializes in working with first-time adult learners and with adults who are re-entering college. The Center is stocked with information specifically oriented to the needs and concerns of adult learners.
Becoming A Master Student (ORI 103) is a course available to any GSCC student interested in mastering the art of being a successful student.
Adult Education and General Educational Development (GED) classes are offered year round at GSCC. These classes are available both day and night. Students may enroll at any time. Classes and books are free, and official GED practice tests are given at no charge. Students may use computer programs and videotapes to prepare for the GED exam or to simply improve basic skills in English, math and reading. Developmental courses are available to students who are qualified to enroll in college but need to upgrade skills in English, math and reading. A placement test is given to entering students to help determine whether or not developmental courses may be necessary.
Student Support Services help eligible students reach their educational goals. Students at the College must apply for the program and are selected for participation based on the following criteria:
Counselors will assist with academic, career or personal counseling.
The program provides free tutorial assistance, helps with textbook expenses,
conducts seminars and arranges social activities. Services for disabled
students include orientation, mobility assistance, readers and note-takers.
Career Information and Placement Services are available to all students and former students. The placement office maintains an up-to-date listing of both full-time/part-time and day/evening jobs. The staff will assist you in a search for part-time employment while you learn and for full-time employment after you have completed a program of study. Help is also available for writing resumès and cover letters and for preparing for job interviews.
The Veterans Upward Bound Program (VUB)provides educational and counseling services to veterans to help insure their success in college. The VUB program is free to qualifying veterans.
Women’s Educational Training and O rientation Center (WETOC) assists those who want to enter college, the workforce or both. During this free five-week program, sessions encourage women in new directions by helping them develop new skills, self-confidence, self-awareness, assertiveness, and by assisting those who desire to continue their education.
