Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College and the Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation are proud to announce a new partnership with Family Savings Credit Union to strengthen financial literacy education for students across the College's campuses.
As the College's Primary Financial Literacy Partner, Family Savings Credit Union is committed to supporting programs that equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions during college and throughout their lives. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to student success by promoting financial responsibility, reducing barriers to completion, and preparing graduates for long-term financial well-being.
The initiative also supports the College's commitment to meeting Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Standard 12.6, which emphasizes student debt education and financial literacy. Through the partnership, Gadsden State will expand opportunities for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about borrowing, debt management, budgeting, credit, and long-term financial planning.
"Student success extends well beyond the classroom," said Tony Smith, president of the Cardinal Foundation. "By partnering with Family Savings Credit Union, we are providing our students with valuable financial education that will help them make wise decisions, reduce financial stress, and build a strong foundation for their futures."
Family Savings Credit Union's investment will support a variety of educational initiatives, including financial literacy workshops, one-on-one financial counseling opportunities, digital learning resources, campuswide awareness campaigns, and programs focused on post-college financial success. Topics will include loan repayment, budgeting, credit management, and long-term financial planning.
"Our goal is to ensure students graduate not only career-ready but financially prepared," said Alan Smith, president of Gadsden State Community College. "Family Savings Credit Union shares our vision of empowering students through education, and we are grateful for their commitment to helping our students develop the confidence and knowledge necessary to achieve lifelong financial success."
Danny Varnon, President and CEO of Family Savings Credit Union, said the partnership reflects the credit union's longstanding commitment to serving the community through education.
"Financial literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can provide because it creates opportunities that last a lifetime. By partnering with the Gadsden State Community College Cardinal Foundation, we're investing not only in education, but in the confidence, knowledge, and financial well-being of students, faculty, and the entire community. Together, we're helping build stronger financial futures for generations to come."
The College will continue to monitor key financial wellness indicators, including student borrowing trends, loan repayment progress, and post-graduation financial outcomes. Through its partnership with Family Savings Credit Union, Gadsden State will strengthen these efforts by expanding financial literacy initiatives that support measurable student success and long-term financial well-being.
As the College's exclusive financial literacy partner, Family Savings Credit Union will have a visible presence throughout Gadsden State's financial education programming, including workshops, seminars, educational resources, and student engagement events. The partnership also creates opportunities to build meaningful, long-term relationships with students as they prepare to enter the workforce and become financially independent members of the community.
This partnership represents a long-term investment in student achievement and reinforces the shared commitment of Gadsden State, the Cardinal Foundation, and Family Savings Credit Union to strengthen the communities they serve through education, financial literacy, and empowerment.
Through a $20,000 annual leadership investment over the next 10 years, Family Savings Credit Union will provide $200,000 to establish a sustainable financial literacy initiative designed to benefit Gadsden State students for years to come.
