Generous donor opens up movie event to the public

Gadsden, Ala. — A fundraiser for Gadsden State Community College’s Cardinal Foundation is now a one-night event and is open to the public. There is no admission charge.

Jeff Bynum with the Big Valley Horse and Mule Co. in Attalla has sponsored the Family Movie Night to the level it is no longer necessary to charge admission. The event will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center.

“We are so appreciative of the Big Valley Horse and Mule Co. for believing in the mission of the Cardinal Foundation and sponsoring this community event,” said John Roberson, director of Development and Alumni Relations at Gadsden State. “Thanks to their generosity, families will be able to participate in fun activities before watching a timeless classic on Gadsden State’s silver screen.”

The Family Movie Night will include Letters to Santa, Coloring with Swoop (Gadsden State’s mascot) and cookie decorating. The event will also include a silent auction from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with proceeds going toward upgrades to the Cardinal Café, the College’s cafeteria located on the Wallace Drive Campus. Silent auction items include car detailing at Team One Automotive, a set of pearls from Hannah’s Closet, a gift basket from the Stone Market, gift cards to local restaurants and more.

The movie “A Christmas Story” will show at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase. Family Movie Night will also include a special photo opportunity on a set from “A Christmas Story” with characters Ralphie, Randy, Mother Parker and Old Man Parker. The set and characters are provided by the Theatre of Gadsden.
