Gadsden State to Provide Complimentary Services to Cancer Survivors

Gadsden, Ala. - Gadsden State Community College’s Salon and Spa Management program will participate in Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 5.  Survivors may choose from various services and one free service per cancer survivor will be provided by students in the program. Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is a nationwide event that takes place every year on the first Tuesday in June to offer complimentary services to all men, women and children who are cancer survivors, regardless of the type of cancer or when they were diagnosed.  For service choice and appointment call 256-549-8625.

 

Cardinal Foundation to host Swoop Sprint 5k June 8Sprint 5k

Gadsden, Ala. - The Cardinal Foundation, a support organization of Gadsden State, is hosting Swoop Sprint, a 5k run, at 9 a.m. June 8 on the Wallace Drive Campus. The Gadsden Runners Club is directing the GRC Grand Prix Series race and all monies collected will be used for student scholarships.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 overall male and female participants.  The preregistration fee $25 with members of the Gadsden Runners Club, Anniston Runners Club and Gadsden State students, faculty or staff receiving a $5 discount.   Race day registration is $30 and is available from 7:30 to 8 a.m.; the race begins at 9 a.m.  To register, go to http://www.gadsdenstate.edu/foundation/home and find the Swoop Sprint 5k menu option.  For more information or to register contact Brandy Hyatt at 256-549-8247 or email swoopinfo@gadsdenrunners.com.

 

ON EXHIBIT:  Gadsden State Student Art Exhibit

Gadsden, Ala. - The 2019 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition featuring artwork by Gadsden State students will be available for viewing at Meadows Library Gallery through July.  Works include digital photography, design, sculpture, paintings and traditional drawings. Gadsden State Offers Free College Prep Classes in Math and English

Gadsden, Ala. - Gadsden State’s Adult Education Services is offering “Jump Start College Preparation” this summer for students planning to attend college in the fall. The free classes are designed for students ages 17 and up. The program provides intensive instruction to improve math and English skills to assist students in being successful in college-level math and English courses. Jump Start classes begin June 10 and end July 25. They will be held from 8 a.m. to noon every Monday through Thursday in Ralls Hall on the East Broad Campus in Gadsden and the Adult Education Building on the Ayers Campus in Anniston.    Both traditional and non-traditional students are welcome to attend.  For more information, call 256-549-8357 or 256-439-6957. Gadsden State offers Drive Safe!

Gadsden, Ala. - Drivers Education courses will be offered this summer through the Continuing Education Department at Gadsden State.  Classes will meet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  June 10-13 and June 24-27 at the Joe Ford Center on the East Broad Campus and June 17-20 and July 8-11 at Gadsden State Cherokee.  The registration fee is $175 per person and certificates will be awarded after completion of the course. Tech Tuesday, Free Workshop for Veterans 

Gadsden/Anniston, Ala. - Gadsden State’s Veterans Upward Bound program will offer Tech Tuesday BYOD: Learn to use iPad/iPod Touch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18 at the Ayers Campus Learning Resource Center and Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus. This workshop is customized to offer assistance in using the latest technology devices.  Please RSVP to 256-549-8204 to attend the workshop. VUB is a TRiO program funded 100 percent by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Enrollment at Gadsden State or any other college or university is not mandatory in order to participate.

 

Youth Basketball Camp at Gadsden State

The Gadsden State Cardinals Athletic Department will host a youth basketball camp for boys and girls in grades 2 through 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 24 and 25 at Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus.  Registration fee is $50 per camper for 2-day camp or $30 for 1-day camp.                                        Contact Kori Walker, assistant basketball coach, at 205-410-6825 to register by June 21.  All participants will need to provide medical release forms which can be obtained by contacting the Athletic Department at dsnow@gadsdenstate.edu /256-549-8310 or by visiting  http://www.gadsdenstate.edu/sites/default/files/u21/summercamp2019registrationform.pdf.

 

Cardinals Offer Summer Volleyball Camps

Gadsden, Ala. - The Gadsden State Athletic Department will host volleyball team camp play dates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22 and 23 for varsity players at Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus. Registration fee is $100 per team to attend either date.  A skills camp for high school juniors and seniors will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 24. The skills camp is intended for athletes who are interested in playing at the college level and is limited to the first 25 who register.  Registration fee is $75 per camper.  For play dates scheduling purposes, participants must contact Connie Clark, Cardinals volleyball coach and camp director, at 256-490-2261 by July 1 to register.  All participants will need to provide medical release forms which can be obtained by contacting the Athletic Department at dsnow@gadsdenstate.edu /256-549-8310 or by visiting http://www.gadsdenstate.edu/sites/default/files/u21/summercamp2019registrationform.pdf.
