Gadsden State awards scholarships to ACE Institute students

Twenty-five recent high school students who were dual enrolled in Gadsden State Community College’s ACE Institute were honored at an awards breakfast June 26 at the One Stop Center on the East Broad Campus. By being enrolled in the Advanced College Enrollment Institute, students earn college credits while also being enrolled in high school.

“These students were very successful in balancing high school courses with the courses they are taking at Gadsden State through the ACE Institute,” said Ashley Gaither, an enrollment specialist at the College. “We want to award them for their academic achievements by giving them scholarships in hopes of retaining them as first-time freshmen at Gadsden State.”

Recipients of the Dual Achievement Scholarship completed at least 24 credit hours of coursework as an ACE Institute student at Gadsden State and maintained at least a 3.0 GPA. The $1,000 scholarship may be renewed for a second year provided all requirements are met.

Recipients include Emalie Albert, Rebecca Ayres, Javian Bowman, Molly Frost, Brandon Gaston, Julissa King, Riley Price, Juston Waits and Brooks Wink, all of Gadsden; Darionta Bell and Madison Wilson, both of Anniston; Shan Bible of Cedar Bluff; William Dodge and Gabriel Perez, both of Altoona; Jovie Edwards and Glenn Kirby, both of of Rainbow City; August Gilliland of Leesburg; Jayden Kearney of Jacksonville; Gregory Skinner of Oxford; Kaitlin Absher and Derek Reynolds, both of Boaz; Hannah Nelson of Irondale; Ashley Skinner of Ranburne; and Fulton White of Delta.

Prospective ACE Institute students are reminded that classes are available during the summer, fall and spring semesters. ACE Institute students may enroll in a Gadsden State course deemed acceptable by the student’s high school, including both general education courses and career technical courses.

To be admitted to the ACE Institute, high school students must meet the following criteria:

2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale

Be in the 10th, 11th or 12 grade

Approval from high school counselor

Students must complete an admissions application for Gadsden State as well as an ACE Institute approval form with signatures from the student, high school counselor and principal. A copy of a valid identification document is also required.
