Gadsden State to host a virtual orientation for incoming freshmen

Gadsden, Ala.--Incoming freshmen at Gadsden State Community College who missed the recent virtual Cardinal Commit events have another opportunity to participate in the summer orientation program from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

“There are some incoming students who were unable to participate in Cardinal Commit so we want to give them one last chance,” said Tonya Douthitt, coordinator of Enrollment Services. “It is important for all new Cardinals to participate in Cardinal Commit so they are armed with all of the information they need to get their collegiate experience started on the right foot.”

This year, Cardinal Commit is offered only in a virtual environment in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. Students are encouraged to complete six steps prior to participating in a Cardinal Commit webinar.

First, students must have their admissions requirements completed. Those who have completed an application but have not received an acceptance letter should email admissions@gadsdenstate.edu to check the application status.

Second, students should apply for financial aid prior to Cardinal Commit. Visit www.fafsa.gov.

Third, students should have access to their student portals with the credentials emailed by Gadsden State’s Admissions Department. If credentials have not been received, email admissions@gadsdenstate.edu.

Fourth, schedule a virtual advising appointment at www.gadsdenstate.edu/admissions-aid/enrollment-services.cms. Advising appointments will take place via video conferencing or on the phone. In-person advisement is currently not offered due to COVID-19 social distancing safety protocols on Gadsden State campuses.

Fifth, register for fall semester classes through the OneACCS student portal. Classes begin on Aug. 19 for full semester and mini I term. Fall semester mini II term begins Oct. 13.

And, finally, RSVP for Cardinal Commit the Cardinal Commit page at www.gadsdenstate.edu.

All participants will be entered to win a $500 book scholarship from the Cardinal Foundation.

Questions about Cardinal Commit should be emailed to enrollmentservices@gadsdenstate.edu.
