February Education Briefs from Gadsden State

Scholarship Information Day Feb. 9

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Enrollment Services is hosting Scholarship Info Day Feb. 9 for students interested in attending the College.  Two sessions will be held at three locations from 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. in Room 130 at Gadsden State Cherokee, the Science Building Auditorium on the East Broad Campus and the Cheaha Center on the Ayers Campus. Scholarships are available to 2021 graduating seniors, and staff will be on hand to assist with completing the scholarship application.  Guidelines will be in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus including wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and temperature checks.  Students may sign up for one of the sessions at https://calendly.com/gsccenrollment.  


Gadsden State to host informational session about FAME program

Anniston, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College is hosting a FAME informational session at 6 p.m. Feb. 18. The event will be in person at the Advanced Manufacturing Center Auditorium on the Ayers Campus and streamed on Facebook Live via the East Alabama FAME page at https://www.facebook.com/GSCCFAME.  FAME—Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education—is a partnership between Gadsden State and East AlabamaWorks. The apprentice-style training program leads to an Associate in Science in Industrial Automation Technology after five semesters of instruction that support advanced manufacturing technology. Spring Mini Term II registration continues at Gadsden State

Gadsden, Ala. — Online registration continues at Gadsden State Community College for the spring mini term II through March 5 with classes beginning March 4.  Visit www.gadsdenstate.edu and click on the link to “OneACCS” at the top of the page to begin the registration process.  To be admitted, go to www.gadsdenstate.edu/apply. Gadsden State Continuing Education Program offers virtual photography class

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering virtual introductory photography classes Feb. 9 and Feb. 16 with photographers Kasey Langley and Kenneth Smith Jr.  The two-evening virtual program will be conducted via Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will be able to ask questions and gain basic knowledge of a camera.  The class will cover the basics of most digital, up-to-date DSLR cameras, lighting and general information. Cost for the class is $50.  Once a student registers, a confirmation email with the Zoom link will be sent upon payment receipt.  The registration form for the photography class can be found at www.gadsdenstate.edu/continuinged. ACT Prep courses offered

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering four sessions of ACT Prep Courses.  Students can participate in the Cardinal Tutoring Center on Gadsden State’s Wallace Drive Campus or via ZOOM.  Guidelines are in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus during the in-person classes. Guidelines include wearing a mask, practicing social distancing as much as possible, completing a wellness questionnaire, getting temperature checks and signing a waiver.

Saturday morning sessions are offered from 8 a.m. to noon April 10 and June 5.  Evening sessions are offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 6 and 8 and June 1 and 3.  Students can register for the session(s) of their choice. Registration cost is $99 for four hours of instruction.  Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions, items needed for the class and a link to the online session(s), if applicable.

Gadsden State offering Drivers Education courses

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering spring and summer sessions of driver’s education classes on three of its campuses.  All sessions are from 8 a.m. to noon.  Students must attend all four classes in a session to receive credit for the course. The session dates and campus locations are as follows:

               Spring Session —  Feb. 27, March 6, 12 and 20

               Summer Sessions — Week of June 7, Joe Ford Center, Gadsden

                                                       Week of June 14, Gadsden State Cherokee, Centre

                                                       Week of June 21, Ayers Campus, Anniston

                                                       Week of July 12, Joe Ford Center, Gadsden

                                                       Week of July 19, Gadsden State Cherokee, Centre

The class size is limited to 12 students. The course is $175 and pre-registration is required.  Guidelines will be in place, while driving masks and gloves are required.  Participants must complete a wellness questionnaire, get their temperature checked and sign a waiver.
