April Education Briefs from Gadsden State

Summer Registration underway at Gadsden State; Summer Six scholarship available

Gadsden, Ala.-- Registration for summer semester terms is underway at Gadsden State Community College.  The first day of class for summer mini term I is May 10. Classes for full summer and summer mini term II begin June 1, and the summer mini term III begins July 6.  Visit www.gadsdenstate.edu and click on the link to “OneACCS” at the top of the page to begin the registration process.  To be admitted, go to www.gadsdenstate.edu/apply. 2021 high school graduates who enroll for the summer semester can take advantage of Gadsden State’s  Summer Six Scholarship which covers up to six credit hours of in-state tuition and fees. It can be used during the full summer semester or any of the three mini terms. The scholarship is open for graduating high school students in Gadsden State’s service area only, including Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega counties. To qualify, 2021 high school graduates must complete the Gadsden State application process and the Summer Six Scholarship application located at www.gadsdenstate.edu/scholarships.  Following an eligibility review, students will be notified about the scholarship decision via their Gadsden State student email address. The deadline to apply is July 2.

Gadsden State Continuing Ed to offer Pilates class

Gadsden, Ala.-- Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering a 10-week Pilates course from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. each Thursday beginning April 8.  Beginner, intermediate and advanced modifications will be offered throughout each class to make the workout suitable for all fitness levels.  Course objectives include improving flexibility, increasing muscle strength and toning the entire body with particular focus on the core.  Participants may attend virtually via Zoom or in person.  Once payment is received all participants will be contacted with a Zoom link or location information. GSCC Alumni Association Scholarships Deadline April 8

Gadsden, Ala.—The Gadsden State Community College Alumni Association is offering $1,000 scholarships to two currently enrolled Gadsden State students. The scholarships can be applied toward tuition, fees and books for the 2021-2022 academic terms at Gadsden State.   The scholarship criteria and application can be located at https://www.gadsdenstate.edu/alumni/alumni-association.cms. All applications must either be submitted or postmarked by 4:30 p.m. April 8.  The scholarships will be awarded at the Gadsden State Honors Day program. Cardinal Foundation to host Swoop Sprint 5kSprint 5k

Gadsden, Ala. - The Cardinal Foundation, a support organization of Gadsden State Community College, is hosting Swoop Sprint, a 5k run, at 9 a.m. April 10 on the Wallace Drive Campus. Monies collected will be used for student scholarships.  The Gadsden Runners Club is directing with the Cardinal Foundation. The course, registered in the GRC Grand Prix Series, will begin and end at the Beck Conference Center. Cash prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 overall male and female participants. First place receives $100, second place receives $50, and third place receives $25.  Age groupings are by five-year increments: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-plus.  The preregistration fee for Swoop Sprint is $25. Members of the Gadsden Runners Club, Anniston Runners Club and Gadsden State students, faculty or staff receive a $5 discount.  Race day registration is $30 and is available from 7:30 to 8 a.m.  The race starts promptly at 9 a.m. Door prizes are awarded after the race.  To register, go to https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/Gadsden/SwoopSprint5K and find the Swoop Sprint 5k menu option. Gadsden State Fine Arts scholarships available

Gadsden, Ala.—The Gadsden State Community College Music Department and Theatre Program is offering half- and full-tuition scholarships for qualified students based upon a successful audition.  Music scholarships are available to Alabama residents and U.S. citizens but students do not have to be music majors to audition.  Theatre scholarships are available to incoming freshmen or returning students who will be enrolled full time for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. The deadline to apply is April 16.

Gadsden State Continuing Education to offer CPR Training

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering CPR training from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 and 30 for anyone interested in learning the life-saving technique. The training sessions will be held at Jarvis Hall on the East Broad Campus. Gadsden State’s Cardinal Foundation offers scholarships

Gadsden, Ala.--The Cardinal Foundation is accepting applications for several scholarships to provide tuition assistance to qualified Gadsden State Community College students. The scholarships may be applied toward tuition, fees and books for the 2021-2022 academic term.   The Gerald Acker Scholarship for the Electrical Technology Program will be awarding two $2,000 scholarships. The Benjamin Steinberg Nursing Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $500 to one Etowah County resident accepted into the GSCC Registered Nursing program.  The Michael Scott Hatten Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 to a student pursuing a degree in the Machine Tool Technology Program at the Ayers Campus.  Tim and Laura McCartney Career Technical Education Scholarship Fund provides three $1,500 scholarships annually to cover tuition, books and fees for students in technical programs involving the construction trades. It is available to current seniors or graduates from a public or private high school in Etowah County and have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5. The Student Access Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,500 to one student enrolling or currently enrolled at Gadsden State Community College.  The Swoop Sprint 5k Scholarship will be awarded to three students enrolled at Gadsden State in the amount of $1,500. The Alabama Homebuilders Association Construction Scholarship is offering two $600 scholarships to a student already enrolled or planning to enroll in the Construction Program. The Cardinal Foundation Calhoun County Scholarship is offering one $1,500 scholarship to a resident of Calhoun County who will be attending Gadsden State Community College in the fall.

The criteria for determining the scholarship awards include grade point average, official transcripts, career goal summary, residential status and financial need.  The scholarship criteria and application can be accessed by visiting the Gadsden State website at https://form.jotform.com/gscctlc/cfscholarships and clicking one of the scholarship buttons provided. ACT Prep courses offered

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering ACT Prep Courses in person in the Cardinal Tutoring Center on Gadsden State’s Wallace Drive Campus or via ZOOM.  Guidelines for on campus classes include wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.    Saturday morning sessions are offered from 8 a.m. to noon April 10 and June 5.  Evening sessions are offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 6 and 8 and June 1 and 3.  Students can register for the session(s) of their choice. Registration cost is $99 for four hours of instruction.  Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions, items needed for the class and a link to the online session(s), if applicable.  To register for any of the Continuing Education classes, visit www.gadsdenstate.edu/continuinged. Gadsden State offering Driver’s Education courses

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering summer sessions of driver’s education classes on three of its campuses.  All sessions are from 8 a.m. to noon.  Students must attend all four classes in a session to receive credit for the course. The session dates and campus locations are as follows:           

          

                Week of June 7 in Joe Ford Center on Gadsden’s East Broad Campus

                Week of June 14 at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre

                Week of June 21 on the Ayers Campus in Anniston

                Week of July 12 in Joe Ford Center on Gadsden’s East Broad Campus

                Week of July 19 at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre

 

The class size is limited to 12 students.
