Students registered by Jan. 14 have a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship

Gadsden, Ala. – The Cardinal Foundation has donated a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to one student at Gadsden State Community College. Students who are registered by Jan. 14 will be eligible for a drawing for the scholarship.

“We appreciate the Cardinal Foundation for being willing to offer an incentive for students to register for classes for the spring semester,” said Dr. Aletta Williamson, dean of Enrollment and Retention. “This scholarship can be a game-changer for a student needing additional financial assistance. Since Gadsden State’s tuition is among the most affordable in the Southeast, this scholarship can go a long way.”

Gadsden State’s tuition and fees total $164 a credit hour, which is substantially lower than all of the state’s public and private four-year universities, she said.

“Not only is Gadsden State affordable but our staff does whatever it can to help eligible students secure financial aid or scholarships to pay their educational expenses,” Williamson said. “When considering tuition, fees, room, board and travel expenses, students can save about $32,000 by choosing to attend Gadsden State instead of a four-year university.”

Students who have registered for classes between Oct. 27 and Jan. 14 will automatically be included in the drawing for the Cardinal Foundation scholarship as long as they remain registered, and their class attendance is verified. The drawing will take place on Jan. 18.  No other action is required from the student for consideration.

Classes for the spring semester and mini 1 term begin Friday but potential students still have time to apply and register for classes. Students may register through Jan. 14.

“We want to give everyone ample opportunity to apply and register at Gadsden State,” Williamson said. “It’s not too late to invest in yourself during this new year by continuing your education.”
