Gadsden State to hold Athletics Forum

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College is hosting an Athletics Forum at 5 p.m. April 20 in the Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus.

“The purpose of the forum is to update supporters about the Cardinals athletic teams and to communicate our go-forward plan,” said Blake Lewis, athletic director. “We will let them know how they can partner with Gadsden State and help us get to the next level. We have a lot of great, ambitious goals but we won’t reach those goals without substantial support from our community.”

In April 2022, Gadsden State announced that it is reinstating the baseball and softball programs, which were disbanded in 2011 and 2016, respectively. The teams will take the field this fall. The softball team will utilize one of the fields constructed by the City of Gadsden in the Gadsden Sports Park located behind the Wallace Drive Campus. The baseball team will play on the field at the Gadsden Sports Complex on Meighan Boulevard that was vacated by the Gadsden City High School Titans team after moving to a new stadium.

“We are excited about fielding the new baseball and softball teams,” said Lewis, who also serves as the head baseball coach. “It’s going to take a hefty investment to purchase uniforms and equipment. We’d also like to eventually construct a new baseball stadium. We are going to need some financial support to make our vision happen.”

Baseball and softball aren’t the only recent additions to the Gadsden State Athletics Department. The men’s and women’s cross country teams had its first season last fall.

“We really need to build an on-campus course for our cross country runners,” he said. “That is one of the goals we hope can be achieved this year.”

Cross country joins the men’s and women’s basketball teams, volleyball team and tennis team.

“We have a lot of amazing student-athletes who chose to further their athletic careers as well as their education at Gadsden State,” Lewis said. “They deserve to be supported so that they can perform to their fullest potential.”

The Athletics Forum is open to the public. Coaches of all teams at Gadsden State will be on-hand for the forum and will be available to answer any questions.
