Gadsden State giving back to the community through supply drives
Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College is giving back and supporting the community through two drives being sponsored by two of its technical programs and a campus location.
The Electronic Engineering Technology and Mechatronics programs are sponsoring a school supply drive for elementary schools in Etowah County through Dec. 10.
“We want to give to the communities we serve and show support in whatever manner that we can,” said Steven Reed, Mechatronics/Robotics and Automation instructor on the East Broad Campus. “Some of our smaller schools are in need of basic school supplies to help students get the most out of their school experience.”
Preferred brands and items needed include Elmer’s glue (white school glue or 3-pack glue sticks), #2 pencils and Crayola pencil colors (12-pack or larger), pens (red, black or blue 5-pack or larger), assorted highlighters or Sharpie markers (2-pack or larger), Crayola markers (assorted, 10-pack or larger), wide rule notebook filler paper, construction paper, copier paper, small safety scissors, Crayola crayons (24-pack or larger), boxes of tissue, paper towel rolls, quart or gallon size freezer bags, hand sanitizer and liquid soap (pump bottles), disinfectant spray (cans) and baby wipes or moist towelettes. Any additional school-related items will be accepted.
Gadsden State’s faculty, staff and students as well as community members are encouraged to participate and show their support by dropping off donations to boxes located at the Gadsden State Bookstore in the One Stop Center, the PR & Marketing Office in the Ford Center, the Bevill Center and the Industrial Automation/Electrical Technology Building on the East Broad Campus. All donations will be given to resource teachers at all local schools.

The faculty, staff and students of Gadsden State Cherokee are partnering with the Cherokee County Rotary Club in sponsoring the annual Food Drive during the month of November to benefit the Cherokee Family Care Center.
“We are proud to partner with the Rotary Club to sponsor this event again this year,” said Marie Roberts, Gadsden State Cherokee library assistant. “Over the last two years, we have received almost 400 donations of food items. We are hoping for greater participation from community members, students, faculty and staff to show our support for local families in need.”
Food items needed include canned meats, instant potatoes, peanut butter and jelly, Ramen noodles, rice, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, chili, soups and stew. Donations may be dropped off at the lobby of the Gadsden State Cherokee academic building located at 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
