Gadsden State Skills Training to offer BLS for healthcare providers
Gadsden, Ala. -- Gadsden State Community College’s Skill Training Division is offering the Basic Life Support course for healthcare providers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Valley Street Campus Certified Nursing Assistant Building.
The BLS course teaches learners to recognize several life-threatening emergencies and to respond appropriately. Training includes instructions for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of automated external defibrillators. The course also covers relief of choking including the Heimlich maneuver and back blows/chest thrusts. The course curriculum also includes rescue guidelines for infants, children and adults.
The BLS certification course is designed for healthcare professionals including physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, pharmacists, physical therapists, dentists, medical students and other healthcare professionals.
“The BLS course is also useful for anyone who needs to know how to perform CPR such as athletic trainers, teachers, coaches, lifeguards and social workers,” said Baisha Woody, director of Skills Training at Gadsden State. “Receiving the BLS certification will help give anyone the confidence needed to act quickly and properly to provide life support when it is needed.”
Upon successful completion of the course, information will be shared with participants about receiving their BLS certification card.
