Gadsden State’s music groups to present Christmas with the Cardinals

Gadsden, Ala.— The Gadsden State Community College Show Band and A Cappella Choir is performing an entertaining show with holiday music of all styles during Christmas with the Cardinals. The free event is 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center.

“The choral groups will provide holiday music of cheer and entertainment at this year’s Christmas with the Cardinals,” said J.T. Harrell, director of the choir.  “As director, this is my favorite time of the year. People are always eager to hear Christmas music and celebrate the season of giving.”

The A Cappella Choir will perform a collection of classic Christmas carols including “White Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” ”Jingle Bells,” “Ukrainian Bell Carol” and other Christmas favorites.

Desmond Mitchell, the director of the show band, said he worked with the students when choosing song selections for the upcoming Christmas with the Cardinals.

“We based our program on the premise that we want to reach everyone in the audience, which we hope will consist of a variety of ages and ethnicities,” he said. “There will be a variety of Pop, R&B, Soul and Country forms of Christmas music performed by the Show Band.  We always want each performance to be entertaining, fun and showcase the strong elements of our band.”

In addition to the on-campus concert, the A Cappella Choir and GSCC Singers will perform “An Evening of Christmas Music” at a free community concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 at First United Methodist Church of Gadsden.
