Gadsden State to hold commencement exercises Dec. 19

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Commencement Ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 in the Richard Lindsey Arena at Gadsden State Cherokee. The event will recognize students who completed requirements following the summer and fall semesters.

Featured speakers are Gadsden State students Julie Ginn and Jeanette Cobb.

Ginn worked as a part-time math instructor for 24 years before deciding to continue her education at Gadsden State to pursue her dream of being in the medical field. She is graduating with an Associate in Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology.

As a student at Gadsden State, Ginn serves as a tutor for Student Support Services and the Cardinal Tutoring Center and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Medical Laboratory Technology Society. She is from Fort Payne and enjoys traveling, gardening and spending time with her family. Ginn will work at DeKalb Regional Medical Center and plans to continue her education to obtain a degree and certification as a medical laboratory scientist.

A native of Houston, Cobb is graduating with an Associate in Applied Science in Salon and Spa Management. She currently works at Sharon’s Beauty Salon in Centre and hopes to own her own salon and spa to create a comfortable, safe place for others while making them look and feel beautiful. She is the mother to four children – Colby, Chris, Elena and Elida – who motivate her to be the best she can be.

Graduates will be presented by Dr. Tera Simmons, executive vice president, and Alan Smith, dean of Workforce Development. Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. Tim Hardy, the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning instructor on the Valley Street Campus, will serve as the commencement grand marshal.
