Gadsden State’s scholarship application deadline approaching
Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College is taking applications for a number of scholarships through March 1. Scholarships are available for 2024 high school graduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Scholarships are only for those who intend to enroll full time at Gadsden State. Students must also complete the high school senior scholarship application located at www.gadsdenstate.edu/scholarships.
Ambassador Scholarships assist selected students with in-state tuition who are willing to work as representatives of the College. The scholarship will pay for seven credit hours during the student’s first year. Second-year ambassadors may receive 13 credit hours if they maintain a 3.0 GPA and exhibit exceptional service to the College. To be considered, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have extensive participation in clubs, organizations and other extracurricular activities. A 500-word maximum essay expressing how life experiences have contributed to the applicant’s preparation to be a GSCC ambassador, a letter of recommendation and current resume are also required. Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the Ambassador Selection Committee.
Dual Enrollment Achievement Scholarships provide assistance to former dual enrollment students who have successfully completed 18 credit hours at Gadsden State. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 at Gadsden State for consideration. The scholarship will pay $500 the student’s first year and an additional $500 each semester for the second year provided that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment.
Health Sciences Scholarships assist selected students with in-state tuition. Students must be a declared Health Sciences major. The scholarship pays for six credit hours during the first year. The scholarship will continue to be available during the student’s second year if they maintain a 2.75 GPA and full-time enrollment. They must also remain a Health Sciences major.
Honors Scholarships will pay for in-state tuition for students who excelled academically throughout their high school careers. To be considered, applicants must have a minimum 3.25 GPA; a minimum score of 22 on the ACT; and an 800-word maximum statement of interest/essay. The scholarship is valued at 16 credit hours for the first year at Gadsden State and 16 credit hours during the second year if the student maintains full-time enrollment and a GPA of at least a 3.25.
The Minority Academic Scholarship will assist selected students with tuition. Preference is given to Black American students enrolled in a program on the Valley Street Campus, which is a designated Historically Black Community College. The scholarship value is $1,010 for the first year as well as the second year if the student remains enrolled full time and maintains a 2.5 GPA.
Presidential Scholarships will be awarded to select students who excelled academically in high school. Recipients must have a minimum 3.25 high school GPA and a minimum score of 22 on the ACT. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach or other mentor and a resume are required. An essay with a minimum of 900 words is required as well. The scholarship pays for 18 credit hours during the first year. An additional 18 hours will be awarded for the second year if the student maintains a 3.25 GPA and full-time enrollment.
Students pursuing technical degrees or certificates may qualify for a Technical Scholarship. Full scholarships will pay 13 credit hours for the first year of enrollment. Partial scholarships are worth $1,010. Full and partial scholarships are renewable for the second year if the recipient continues training in a technical program, maintains a 2.5 GPA and full-time enrollment.
Start Strong Scholarships aid 2024 graduating seniors who do not receive other institutional opportunities. The scholarship will pay for six credit hours during the student’s first year of full-time enrollment.
