Scholarships available this summer for select career technical programs

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College is offering scholarships and a reimbursement program for select career technical programs. Applications will be accepted through May 29.

“Our programs train students for high-demand, high-wage employment,” said Alan Smith, dean of Workforce Development at Gadsden State. “We provide them with practical skills and knowledge that are essential for their chosen careers. Through scholarships, we are investing in nurturing talent and fostering skilled professionals.”

Students who are in the Electrical Technology or the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program are eligible for scholarships that pay $1,000 and $2,000, respectively, in tuition. To apply, visit GadsdenState.edu/Scholarships and click on 2023-24 General Scholarship Application. Students should inform their instructors of their application and email their name and student number to gmartin@gadsdenstate.edu.

Gadsden State and the Alabama Community College System are also offering the Short-Term Credential Scholarship. It is available to Alabama residents seeking reimbursement of expenses associated with enrollment and completion of a short-term credential program. The program is an option for both for-credit and non-credit programs, including programs offered by the Workforce Development Division and Skills Training Division. Short-term programs can be completed in two semesters or less.

“This is a reimbursement scholarship so students will need to pay upfront, but they will be completely reimbursed once they receive a credential,” Smith said.

Students who meet the criteria will be reimbursed up to $4,500 toward qualifying educational expenses related to the short-term credential program. These costs may include tuition, fees, books, credentialing fees, materials and supplies.
