Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation Establishes Laura Tutor Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Gadsden, Ala. — The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation proudly announces the creation of the Laura Tutor Memorial Nursing Scholarship, established to honor the life, legacy, and compassionate service of Laura Tutor, a 2011 magna cum laude graduate of the nursing program at Gadsden State Community College.
Laura’s journey into nursing was one of courage and purpose. After making a mid-career change, she found her calling through Gadsden State’s nursing program—a decision she often credited with opening the door to a deeply fulfilling profession. Her transition into healthcare not only transformed her own life but also allowed her to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
As a certified registered nurse practitioner, Laura dedicated many years to caring for patients across Etowah County. Known for her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to her patients, she became a trusted and beloved figure in the community.
In tribute to her life and legacy, her husband, Phillip Tutor, established the Laura Tutor Memorial Nursing Scholarship to support future generations of nursing students.
“Laura believed deeply in the power of education to change lives,” said her husband, Phillip. “Gadsden State gave her the opportunity to pursue a new path, and it brought her so much joy. It is my hope that this scholarship will provide that same opportunity to others—especially those considering a career change or looking for a new beginning.”
The scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the nursing program at Gadsden State, with a special emphasis on individuals who are pursuing nursing as a second career or embarking on a new professional pathway.
“Laura’s story is a powerful example of how education can transform lives at any stage,” said Hillary Folsom, director of advancement and alumni relations. “This scholarship not only honors her memory but also ensures her legacy continues through the students who will follow in her footsteps—serving others with compassion and dedication.”
The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation invites the community to join in honoring Laura’s life by supporting the scholarship fund, helping to create opportunities for aspiring nurses for years to come.
