Gadsden State Awarded $50,000 Gene Haas Foundation Grant to Support CNC and Engineering Students
Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College has been awarded a $50,000 scholarship grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining and engineering programs with an emphasis on CNC technology.
The grant will help remove financial barriers for current and future students pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing by funding scholarships, student toolkits, manufacturing-related training opportunities and participation in industry competitions. The award is intended to encourage students to continue their education and prepare for high-demand careers in precision machining and manufacturing.
"The continued support of the Gene Haas Foundation is an investment in both our students and the future of manufacturing in our region," said Dr. Dana Davis, dean of Institutional Effectiveness, Grants, and Special Projects. "This funding allows us to help more students gain the skills, experience and credentials needed to enter Alabama's growing advanced manufacturing workforce."
According to the Gene Haas Foundation, scholarship awards typically range from $500 to $2,500 per student and may also be used to provide essential machining toolkits, support SkillsUSA and other approved CNC competitions, and introduce prospective students to manufacturing careers through camps and training programs.
Andy Robertson, dean of Workforce Development, said the grant strengthens opportunities for students pursuing careers in one of the state's most in-demand industries.
"Manufacturing employers are looking for highly skilled CNC machinists and technicians," Robertson said. "This grant helps ensure our students have access to the resources they need to complete their training and enter the workforce with confidence."
The Gene Haas Foundation supports manufacturing education programs across North America by investing in scholarships, CNC education and workforce development initiatives. Gadsden State has been a recipient of the foundation's support for several years, helping students pursue careers in machining, engineering and advanced manufacturing.
